Did you become a Rangers fan solely because of your upbringing? It must have been at the time when Celtic were the dominant club in Scotland.
When you’re seven it comes down to who you hang around with. I was at a  Protestant school in the late Sixties. I knew some Celtic fans too but the first league match I was taken to by my dad was to see Rangers – although I actually saw Celtic first, in a pre-season match against Queens Park. We lived near Hampden and they were the local club. I used to watch them too for the first couple of years that I was interested in football. You could go when you were ten and you felt safe with a space of your own in this big ground.

Wednesday 1 Leicester's Tony Cottee and Andrew Impey are charged with misconduct by the FA after an investigation into how tickets for the 1999 Worthington Cup final ended up on the black market. A further 25 players and officials at Leicester have been charged with failing to assist the inquiry. "It's an absolute farce," says Neil Lennon. "We were given forms and asked to write out who we gave our tickets to but no deadline was given." The average age of the creaking Middlesbrough midfield will be lowered significantly with the return of Juninho, back on loan from Atletico Madrid until the end of the season. The Rep of Ireland beat Yugoslavia 2-1 in a Euro 2000 qualifier.

Aberdeen thought they had finally found the businessman with the financial backing to take them back to the glory days, but as Jonathan Northcroft reveals, things have not gone the way the fans expected

Earlier this year, Sir Alex Ferguson had to parade sheepishly down Union Street in the wind, sporting a jaunty feathered hat and more gold chains than a coachload of gangsta rappers. Then he was cuffed on the head with a ceremonial pair of old trousers and forced to mumble something in Latin. Even bringing the European Cup-Winners Cup to Pittodrie was not enough to spare him the ceremony required to become a Freeman of the City of Aberdeen.
