In an unusual turnabout, this year’s WSC survey gives Sepp Blatter a helping hand. Ever anticipating the key issues, we asked what damage you thought the number of foreign players was causing the game to­day. Of the first 900 questionnaires re­turned, 50 per cent said the England team was suffering, 45 per cent saw damage in the Premiership, 35 per cent in the Scot­tish Premier League and 30 per cent to the Scottish national side. Only 29 per cent felt the number of foreign players causing no damage anywhere in the game. Thirty-two per cent felt, like Sepp, the restrictions should be tightened, but 51 per cent thought they were about right.

Frustration is growing among Leicester fans as they continue to try to find a site for their new stadium. Simon Tyers explains his and the fans' disgruntlement

There’s a lot of us Leicester fans about. Which may surprise the casual observer, as Filbert Street currently contains just 21,500 seats, with 20,469 of them filled on average last season. It’s not for the want of trying that the figure is so low – five years ago, the Carling Stand was opened, having cost £5.75 million to dev­elop. The club promptly put the TV camera gantry right at the top, meaning that Britain’s viewing public see as much of Leicester General hospital as they do of the paying spectators.

Tom Locke recalls scenes from the life of the second most fearsome terrace in Newcastle

A friend of mine tells a good story about the Leazes End at St James’ Park. It was the infamous 1974 FA Cup tie against Nott­ingham Forest, and the score was 3-3. Bobby Moncur scored to put Newcastle improbably ahead, and the crowd, as they say, went wild. My mate was duly leaping around with the best of them when his right foot landed on something a bit sharp. It was a set of dentures. The old fellow next to him gro­velled about on the terracing to retrieve them. They had, of course, been expell­ed in the frenzied delight immediately following the goal. The man dusted his falsies off and popped them back in. They were going in all directions, but he seem­ed pretty unperturbed.
