Sinking ship Roy Hogdson and England
“At least Ray Lewington got to see Paris. As Roy Hodgson handed in his three lions badge and blazer in Saint-Étienne, appearing one last time for a bedraggled hostage-survivor press conference the following day, it wasn’t so much the fact of his resignation, but the details that seemed likely to linger. People watching Eye witnesses
“For the past five and a half years I’ve lived a two-minute walk from Le Palais de la Biere, a little brasserie opposite Lille Flandres train station. It was part of the week-long ‘Fanfare For Europe’ – a cultural festival that would allow Britain to share what Prime Minister Edward Heath called his ‘heart full of joy’ at the prospect of their country forging closer ties with Western Europe.“ Buy here to read the full article
Channel flicking BBC and ITV coverage
“It used to be a constant, something steady and reliable in changing times. ITV’s presentation of football was crass and tasteless, dumb and shoddy, the dimmest form of light entertainment. In the last few years it’s grown a little bit less gruesome, but this time it was clear that ITV Sport were determined to ditch that trademark tackiness.” Buy here to read the full article
